Today we drove from Chicago to Tulsa, OK on our way to San Diego. Jason and I were very nervous about Deebo since we haven't taken him further than 60 minutes from our house. Jason loaded the car mostly by himself this morning since I'm not allowed to lift heavy things. We got everything of ours to fit in the back seat of the car and then Deebo's bed and water went into the hatchback portion of the car.
Deebo has been a bit ornery for the last week. He usually gets this way when we pack for a trip. It was exaggerated this time because we packed all week. It drove him nuts. Deebo normally sleeps all day. I'm not kidding. He probably sleeps 18 hours a day. For the last week he has refused to sleep in the evenings while we pack because he's afraid we were going to leave without him while he's sleeping.
This morning he was beside himself as Jason carried stuff to the car. Finally we put his bed in the back and he got so excited! He couldn't stop panting and he had the biggest grin on his face. He was trilled to start our trip together.
Deebo was a champ today! He didn't howl once. I have to get out to walk every two hours to avoid blood clots, so that worked out for him too. We would take turns walking in the grass while the other went to the bathroom or got gas. It was perfect.
Tonight is his first trip to a hotel with us. Right now he's sleeping, so that's a good sign. He is a little on edge, but I hope he'll be okay. We'll see how the next few days go.

Ultrasound
Our ultrasound was so great yesterday! I can't believe how much I love our baby already. He is adorable! You'll have to take my word for now. I am currently in a hotel in Tulsa, OK and don't have access to a scanner.
So, Baby Ems (or Baby Sven as Jason would like to now call him), was very awake but in the funniest position. His head was tilted to fit into a very tight spot between my bladder and something else in there. He had tons of room down by his feet but didn't want to move down. The ultrasound tech did a great job showing us what everything was as she moved from head to torso to limbs. He was very cooperative with everything but the torso portion. He wouldn't move into the correct position and apparently my bladder was filling up faster than it should. We had to take two breaks so I could go to the bathroom!
All in all it was very successful and sweet. I teared up a few times but didn't cry. We have a bunch of pictures that we'll share as soon as we get to a scanner.

Pay It Forward
I just won a crafty surprise from Paisley and Polkadots! How, you might ask? Well I participated in her Pay It Forward challenge. So now, here is my Pay-It-Forward challenge to you:
"I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on my blog requesting to join this PIF exchange. I don’t know what that gift will be yet and you may not receive it tomorrow or next week, but you will receive it within 365 days, which is my promise! The only thing you have to do in return is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog."
So, if you want something fun and crafty made by my own two hands, leave a quick comment!

Dreams
The whole time I've been pregnant I have had the most vivid dreams. Some of them were scary, some were funny and some were just weird. Well, I had one the other night that made me wake up laughing. I had a dream that we named our baby Horacio Orangelo Five. Yes, all three in that order. Isn't that the weirdest thing? I know for sure that none of those names will make it into our child's name. So, whatever we pick I'm sure you'll all be thankful it wasn't Horacio Orangelo Five!

In preparation of our drive to San Diego we decided Deebo needed some sort of travel water dish. I had previously seen a hamster type watering system that seemed quite complicated and thought that was my only option. So, when I went to the pet store to buy it they didn't have it but they had THE WATERBOY! It's basically a 3qt water jug that keeps a small amount of water is a reservoir at all times.
I bought it and brought it home. I must tell you that Deebo is always excited when I bring things home in plastic sacks. He is beyond thrilled when I give him something out of those sacks. It doesn't seem to matter what it is. As I presented him with this water system filled with water he stood there and drank for a good five minutes! Ever since he has spent a lot of time drinking. He has had to go to the bathroom a lot more frequently over the last few days. We're hoping the novelty wears off before we head towards San Diego.

Birth / Infant Classes
I am looking into birthing classes and am overloaded by the number of options. I imagine I'll probably have an epidural (I know a few of you are calling me a sellout). I know that a lot of people can do all natural, unmedicated births but I don't know if I'm willing to take the time it takes to practice everything. I also don't want to go without classes because I like to know a lot of things and flying blind in birthing doesn't sound like fun. But, I know that works for some people as well. Plus I think Jason would appreciate any information or encouragement as my 'coach' that a class may give. So, I want to know if you took classes and if so, which ones?

Easter Poll
The Easter poll has officially ended. As it turns out, more people who look at this blog woke up to hidden Easter baskets. Who would have thought? I'm glad to know my family isn't totally weird. I don't know if Jason and I will continue the tradition, but I think we have a few years before we have to decide. Of course Baby Ems won't be able to look very hard for it's basket when it is 5 months old.
