Wellness Challenge Week 1

I just finished week one of the Wellness Challenge. This is hard but not in the way I thought it would be. The journaling is the hardest. I used to write in a journal every day in highschool. What happened? I guess I got over myself a little bit and now it is hard to force myself to just write.

After the first 2-3 days I got over the need for sweets after every meal. Thank goodness. My sweet this week was on Tuesday when I went to a friend's birthday party. That cake was well worth it and I think it tasted better when I look back on it because it was the only sweet of the week. I miss baking though. It's hard to bake and not eat it. I'm making chocolate chip cookies tomorrow. Not because I want to try to sabotage myself but Calder is potty training and we need activities we can do at home.

There are a few things that are in a gray area. As in, I'm not sure if they are okay or not. A few of these are: Crystal Light, cold cereal with some sugar (don't they all?) and granola bars. I've been generally avoiding these but cold cereal is tough. I mean, we're talking Special K and Raisin Bran not Cocoa Puffs or Lucky Charms. What are your thoughts?

I was surprised when I got on the scale on Saturday and had lost 3 pounds! I can't believe how easy it was when I look back on it. My sister is doing this with me and she lost 4 pounds. If you're on the fence about trying it, do it.

So, for those who joined me in the challenge, how did it work for you? What did you find hard? Did you succeed for the week? Are you in for another week?

I don't know about Crystal Light, but I know that granola bars are high in sugar. And Raisin Bran is the worst cereal out there as far as sugar goes (or so I read recently). I don't know about Special K. The biggest surprise for me with my low-sugar diet is that eating a handful of grapes or berries actually satisfies my sugar cravings. Good luck!

Sadly, I cannot keep up with all your awesome goals!! I would say that crystal light and the cereals are fine, just don't over-do them (like a bowl of cereal every night instead of ice cream). But I would be one to bend some of the rules, so maybe don't take my advice. :) Good luck, Cami! Can't wait to hear all the updates.

Way to go Cami! I think Crystal Light is ok. Although I only drink it on occasion. Granola bars are hard. I decided to give up my fiber one bars that are the chocolate ones with the chocolate chips. Just did not seem quite right! But, I would like to look into making granola bars. Any one have good recipes they love?? I think reading the labels on cereals is a great idea. I also love raisin bran! hmm... For me it is going well... I have lost quite a bit this week! I am so excited and I am going on another week. YIPEE. It was not as hard as I thought. Although it was pretty tough when my friends were eating dessert and I was not. I waited clear until Sunday for my one sweet. I made brownies with the cream cheese filling. They were wonderful! But you know I don't crave sweets like I used to. Here we go... another week!

i've continued eating cornflakes - sloan and i share a bowl in the morning. i add a banana and raisins. i figure that for cereal, if sugar isn't the first or second ingredient than it's ok. but also, i didn't exactly jump in with both feet. i forgot about some stuff, so i've been kind of adding steps each day.

I think you're both doing so great! I had the hardest time with getting exercise in. Didn't want to get out of bed in the morning and once I got home from work, I wanted to stay there. Now I'm trying to ride the bike to and from work a few days a week - and that takes extra prep. Keep it up!

Okay, so I think Crystal light is okay but haven't felt like I needed it so I'll just go without. I'm going to continue to avoid granola bars and Raisin Bran too. I did make homemade granola without sugar. Instead of oil as a clumping/holding agent I used apple juice concentrate. It worked really well.

I say no on the chocolate milk. Sorry Katie. :)

What about adding pure raisins to your Special K or Shredded Wheat or something? (Of course I am full of ideas because I'm pregnant and feel no obligation to diet right now) But I am very impressed with you and wish you the best of luck. Go Cami!
