This was a fairly good week for not spending money. I didn't feel as tempted. I spent $45.84 at the grocery store. Not bad. I did find a 12 pack of Coke in the car, so that means Jason spent money at the grocery store. I'm guessing it was about $5.00. Either way, I never made him commit to this silly spending fast and I do think it would have fit in the budget if I wanted it to.
Calder was sick this week. He has a double ear infection, possibly strep throat, oh and he still has those pesky 5 (possibly 6 now, I can't quite tell) teeth coming in. There were two nights that we didn't get much sleep and a third that was less than desirable. Since the doctor thought he may have strep throat we weren't allowed to come in contact with other kids for 2 days. That wasn't fun, but it sure made not spending money pretty darn easy. We did spend $25.00 on the copay but I feel pretty okay with that.
My friend Amy brought us dinner after the less than desirable sleep night. It was really good and fed us for a few days! Thanks Amy!
I only have 10 days left. I can totally do this! I do have a list of things I want to buy. It's interesting how some things have been crossed off the list because I don't really need/want them any more. I wonder if it would be a good practice to keep a running list of things you want, write the date next to it and wait two weeks to buy it. I wonder how much stuff would disappear. Anyone want to try that for the next 10 days? Like a mini spending fast?
So, Lauren and Lorraine, how is it going for you guys? Anyone else have a Spending Fast planned for the future?

Wow, you are my frugal hero! I am so impressed with your will power. It's inspired me to look at how I spend. I think I may try your "write it down and sit on it for 2 weeks" and see how it goes. Good luck with the last 10 days!!
I've actually been keeping a list of things to buy. Keeping a list has been good because I don't feel like I need to hurry and buy something right when I think of it so that I won't forget. And you're right. A lot of things fall off the list when I later realize they aren't that important.
My photography teacher has a good motto about buying photography gear, but it applies to most purchase decisions. He said not to buy anything until you've actually got a need. For instance, don't buy something you see and think it would be so useful, but really, you've done just fine without it. Buy things that you've actually thought, "Man, such-and-such thing would be so useful right now!" on a number of occasions.
Once you realize you would actually use something over and over, it's easier to justify buying it.
I really like that Danielle. I tend to prefer a minimalistic lifestyle and I like the idea of holding off until there have been multiple times of need. Thanks for that. I may have a new motto.
So... we're moving next week. This spending fast has been awesome- it's helped save money for the big move, AND it's helped me clean out my cupboard. Anyway, I made a list last week of everything I could make and a list of the things I needed to complete said meals. It cost me $62, but it will last me till the end of the month, minus milk and fruit, so although that wouldn't have made it in your rules, it will average out to less than $50/week. It's cheating, but I'm going with it.
That's it. I didn't spend anywhere else, I don't think. You're right, this is actually getting easier, not harder. I'm shocked!!! Except, I might just have to break out and buy my kids some shorts. It's been really hot and Kate is wearing leggings every day and Ethan is wearing his shorts from last year and they are just that- SHORT. Poor kid. I won't take pictures!
Seriously, I'm giving you a premature THANK YOU. This has really made me realize how unnecessary a lot of my spending has been. Even if it fits in your budget, it doesn't mean that you need it.
So behind on blog reading! Great idea. Might have to try it.
I'm inspired by you, really. And I think it's so great that you share your personal goals and the progress of them on your blog. Really, that is such a brave thing to do, because many of us make goals but have a hard time keeping them. I hope to do the spending fast month sometime in the future (meaning this year or next) and I'll be sure to let you know when I do. :)
